Quote of the Day: Senator William Jenner on American Dictatorship

Posted by rebtl On July - 12 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

WilliamJenner“Today the path of total dictatorship in the United States can be laid by strictly legal means, unseen and unheard by the Congress, the President, or the people. Outwardly we have a Constitutional government. We have operating within our government and political system, another body representing another form of government – a bureaucratic elite.”

A Real Look at the Patriot Act

Posted by rebtl On July - 11 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

patriotAlmost everybody has heard of the Patriot Act, and quite a few people even know there is a Patriot Act II. Why do people recognize these two documents, at least in name? Simple. After they were shoved it through congress right after 9/11, there was a huge public outcry against it. For just about the one and only time during the Bush administration, people had a little foresight to recognize the possible problems. However, just because people have heard of the Patriot Act and its bad connotations doesn’t mean they understand the consequences. Read the rest of this entry »

National Continuity Policy- National Security Presidential Directive 51

Posted by rebtl On July - 9 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

This Congressional research document was written for members of congress on several oversight committees to give a brief overview of the National Security Presidential Directive (NSPD) 51, President Bush issued in May of 2007. The report points out that the federal government in this day and age must be prepared to uphold continuity of government in the event of a catastrophic incident of any level that would affect the workings of the government infrastructure across the country. It lays out a list of eight items, or National Essential Functions (NEF) determined by the President that must be upheld in the event of such an emergency. These include Read the rest of this entry »

Bush to Ignore Posse Comitatus Act

Posted by rebtl On July - 7 - 2008 1 COMMENT

An article from the Chattanooga Times Free Press, written by a professor at George Mason University, examines the Posse Comitatus Act, and several references made by President Bush that he would be willing to ignore that act. The Posse Comitatus Act was passed during the Reconstruction era, in order to severely or completely limit the government’s ability to use the national military as a law enforcement utility. The article points out that twice now, once to contain an outbreak of avian flu, and previously in regards to the policeaftermath of Katrina, the President has said he would be willing to use the military as a national police force. The writer then points out how Americans have been softened up over the years to easily and blindly accept anything that has been “legalized” regardless of their own beliefs or constitutional rights. He then takes a shot at the “American Sheeple” and our inability to go against anything that has been deemed “the law”, pointing to the start of the American Revolution, and the colonists decision to reject the Sugar and Stamp acts. Finally, he points out how the President’s use of troops in any domestic situation would Read the rest of this entry »

Executive Branch Reform Act

Posted by rebtl On July - 3 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

ManOnPhone100s6The Executive Branch Reform Act (EBRA), available here in full text from the House Over site Committee website, was passed in 2007 mainly to cut down on the corruption of lobbyists in contact with executive branch officials. However, many people, including myself, do not see it as that simple. It also represents a gross destruction of our rights to petition the government without fear of reprisal. Bush’s Free Speech Zones

Posted by rebtl On July - 1 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Everyone knows, or at least they should know, the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees every us-constitution-01aAmerican the right to free speech and to peaceably protest and petition the government. Americans today tend to take these rights for granted quite often, with the thought that they will always be there. However, over the past eight years, the executive branch has been slowly and quietly removing these rights, and many others, from Americans under the guise of patriotism, security, and the threat of terrorism. Don’t want to believe this could possibly be true? Look at just one,of the hundreds available, examples Read the rest of this entry »

Oklahoma declares state soverienty over federal government

Posted by rebtl On June - 24 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

oklahomaSo apparently a few months ago, in March to be exact, the state of Oklahoma essentially wrote a memorandum to the federal government declaring their state’s sovereign rights as protected by the 10th Amendment. This might not sound like much of a big deal, because everybody thinks, sure all states have sovereign rights, why do they have to declare theirs?

Well sure, all states have certain sovereign rights as laid out by the constitution, unfortunately as we all know the federal government these days cares very little about what they are allowed to do. I am definitely not one to write grand legal prose so I will just copy the Oklahoma Joint House Resolution 1089. It is short and very inspiring so please read it carefully.
